LED lighting has long been known to be a more efficient solution to traditional lightbulbs, but it is more recently that their benefits for agriculture have begun to be realized. Now, these technologies are increasingly affordable, leaving few reasons not to take advantage of them! 

 

Effective and thorough light dispersion through and around the plant canopy

Traditional High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide lighting systems usually consist of a central light above a certain crop area. This results in an uneven dispersion of light: plants directly beneath the lights grow quickly, while those to the side receive less light and are therefore stunted by comparison. What's worse, these lighting systems produce a great deal of heat, and can burn plants if not properly ventilated with the use of fans and exhaust systems. This leads to below-optimal crop yields. With the Cedar Island Series of LED Grow Lights, light is evenly distributed among the plants, allowing for even growth and optimal yields.

Perhaps you are already sold on the benefits of LED technology and are using LED lighting units that are like thin, rectagular boxes held above your crop. In this case, you may know that these kinds of LED lighting systems still produce a significant amount of heat and have internal fans to compensate. What happens when these fans stop working or need internal maintenance? This is no longer a concern with the Cedar Island Series. Nothing moves, so nothing breaks. Just replace the light strip at the end of its life (~10 years!).

The key to the CI Series of LED Grow lights is a marriage between the newest LED diode technology - the most efficient commercially available today - and our aluminum heat sink. Not only do our lights produce very little excess heat to begin with, but our parented aluminum heat sink effectively disperses what little heat is left, ensuring that there is no impact on the growing environment and therefore no need for any other bells and whistles that require more time, more money and may need to be replaced shortly down the road. This saves time for the more important task of cultivating a healthy crop!

Significantly safer than HPS or Mh bulbs

While High Intensity Discharge lighting systems are used widely in the indoor agriclture industry, they certainly have their share of drawbacks. Due to the fact that these lighting systems use a great deal of energy and produce a significant amount of heat, when handled inproperly they can pose a fire hazard. In addition, these lights can leach toxic chemicals when damaged. The Cedar Island Series of LED Grow Lights contain no chemicals and produce almost no heat. The risk of danger is drastically reduced - so why bother with HID lighting systems at all?
